Question: Why are drag queens dress so exaggerated instead of a more natural beauty look? (Posted by: Wide eyed on 2008-04-15 21:05:17) Most women don't wear flashy mini skirts and short dresses and try to wear not so garish makeup. Why do most drag queens imitate this style? http:/ / www.pokerblog.com/ images/ Lenny/ pamela_anderson1.jpg http:/ / www.wallpaperez.net/ wallpaper/ celebrities/ Pamela- Anderson- 416.jpg http:/ / images.askmen.com/ galleries/ singer/ willa- ford/ pictures/ willa- ford- picture- 1.jpg Instead of this style? http:/ / orlandobloom.celebden.com/ wp- content/ uploads/ 2006/ 08/ kiera- knightly.jpg http:/ / www.collider.com/ uploads/ imageGallery/ Emmy_Rossum/ emmy_rossum_final_cover_cd.jpg http:/ / www.celebrific.com/ wp- content/ uploads/ 2007/ 05/ jessica- simpson- john- mayer- break- up- 5- 21- 07.jpg |

Posted by: wakeeskater on 2008-04-15, 21:11:28 Why do men feel the need to prance 'round as women in the first place. |

Posted by: Mimza on 2008-04-15, 21:13:17 Drags are not women. So if they're gonna imitate us they have to go for the trashy style and overdo it. They need the mini skirt and the bimbo look to just "look " like someone of the opposite sex. They can't have the natural beauty look of a woman since they are not natural women. Its all about trying to cover up the manly features by being flashy. |

Posted by: Angelspit on 2008-04-15, 21:14:14 Now, first of all let me say that I am not actually a drag queen, however I do know a few. That being said, I will tell you what I have gotten from the few that I know. Not, of course to say that others do not have entirely seperate reasons, but.... Some drag queens do dress in a very feminine style. But, first of all, alot of the ones who dress so garishly are also using their look to make a living. Alot of them do this because they perform in shows and whatnot, so it is sort of like stage makeup. Others do it because to them, that looks good. Same reason why some women use tremendous amounts of makeup, or clothing that is not socially acceptable/ proper. Everyone just wants to look the way they want to look. Ya know, do what makes you feel good about yourself. ^_^ |

Posted by: Cole W on 2008-04-15, 21:20:30 I think the 'drag queens' are more for entertainment. I think most trans people do go the more natural route. I could be wrong, but most of the women I've seen and present themselves as drag queens are going for a move entertainment factor and just want to glam it up a bit. If that's what they want either way, I'm not about to judge them. |

Posted by: Gwen B on 2008-04-15, 21:34:10 Cole W's got the answer. Drag is performance- it's an exaggeration of femininity (or, in the case of drag kings, masculinity). Men who wear women's clothes in a more natural way are called crossdressers, not drag queens. But for times when both seem to overdo the look, I'd assume it's because it's a fetish of sorts; relishing in all the details as they are sexual in nature. |

Posted by: Diane on 2008-04-16, 02:18:02 Because Drag Queens are performers; they aren't trying to look like real women, they're portraying a PARODY of women, for entertainment purposes. If they looked 'natural' or ordinary, they wouldn't have the same impact. |
