Do drag queens prefer to be called ma'am or sir?

Question: Do drag queens prefer to be called ma'am or sir?

(Posted by: Chiquita Banana on 2009-12-06 16:36:18)

No I'm being serious, because the makeup store I frequently go to has a couple men in drag there and I never know whether to say, "Excuse sir " or maam when I'm asking for help. No rude answers, please.

Chiquita: Good question!. Now I'm unsure are you saying the sales staff, are in drag or that some of the staff are Transgendered? Especially if they are the ones who had a sex change late in life & can sometimes look like men in drag. Since you state you're "ASKING FOR HELP " from them. I would do one of 2 things: 1) just ask them the next time your in the store what would they prefer. Do it in a respectful way, such as for an example " Excuse me but I notice that there is a difference in your voice or manner & I was wondering if i should address you as sir or ma'am? ". Or something along those lines. 2) if you uncomfortable in asking just use the generic "Excuse me can You help me? ". Does this help any, hope it does & thanks for being so respectful & courteous

Call them by whatever gender they are presenting as. Like if a queen is glammed up with hair, and make up then the pronoun would be female/ she.

Just say "excuse me " without any gender pronouns just to be safe.

When they are in drag or if they are cross-dressing, call them Ma'am or Miss. If they are dressed as a man, call them sir. Good luck friend.

What I was taught was if he's dressed like a female, use ma'am.

I think they want to be called by the name of what ever character they're playing :/

If she's all made up, and in drag, she's gonna want to be called 'she'. Call people what they're presenting as
