Question: Are drag queens sexist? (Posted by: Elizabeth C on 2010-03-05 18:24:04) Because when drag queens wear heels and lipstick they are pretty much saying that women are simply mindless idiots who are only categorized by heels and lipstick. |

And I have seen drag queens who don't wear heels. I saw one drag queen as a Kathy Griffin impersonator and she had very little makeup on and wore flats. |

Posted by: Gwennie B on 2010-03-05, 19:39:11 Drag queens are exaggerated performances of femininity. They are meant to be exactly that- exaggerations. It's from these stereotyped, cliched, hackneyed, and exaggerated portrayals that we get the humor, the comedy, the showmanship, and sometimes even a witty commentary on gender roles in our society. It's meant to be a performance, not their vision of what womanhood is and/ or should be. |
