Transgender become sex workers, because nobody will hire them, because of prejudice's, and must do so to survive. Passing the ENDA, will help, outlawing discrimination against transgenders. The ENDA is an antidiscrimination bill, however without transgender identity and expression, it doesn't protect anyone, it has a very large loophole in it otherwise.

I think this is an old stereotype. I think the number of people who do sex work are a very small minority in the community. However, to listen to the media tell it we're all that way. Umm NO! I'm a medical professional. And I have friends who are doctors, nurses, lawyers and airline pilots. We come from all walks of life, just like everyone else. Things have come a long ways in the last couple decades. It's time for this stereotype to die! Look here: ai.eecs.umich.edu/ people/ conway/ TSsuccesses/ TSgallery1.html My answer to your question is a firm NO.

In my eleven years of involvement with the TS community, both online and locally, I have only known one TS who worked in the sex trade. She is a dominatrix. I have seen ads for sex workers but have not known them. Therefore, I would say that No, there is not a problem with prostitution in the trans community. The more that people become educated about us and see positive examples of us, the more accepted we will be. Then, hopefully, the bad stereotypes will fade away.

There are a lot of transgender prostitutes, but that is largely because no will hire them for jobs they are perfectly qualified for, and go into the sex trades to make ends meet
